Have you ever had one of those days where you Just. Can’t. Seem. To. Focus.? This is one of those days for me. Everything but what I need to do seems to be a more appealing way to spend my time (yikes – that is no good for this busy mom!). My heart wants to enter into prayer and worship and my mind wants to spend the next 2 hours watching garbage on Netflix. (FOCUS, Sara! Netflix will still be there in an hour!)
It is days like this that I am grateful for soaking music. Go ahead. Turn yours on – I just turned on mine. Let’s enter into God’s presence and receive His peace, knowing that in our weakness, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us and gives words to our wordless groans, just as the Spirit gives us breath and fills us with joy as we spend time in God’s presence. If you are looking for some soaking music, here is one song by one of my favorite artists: http://youtu.be/mxNnlVYBWqA
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27 NIV)
Dear one, when you do not know what or how to pray – when your mind refuses to focus, when your pain is too deep, when the kids have dumped macaroni and cheese powder all over the kitchen and chaos has struck, or when life interruptions happen, take heart! God understands your struggles, He understands your pains, He understands your brand of chaos and He meets you in it. Sit in His presence, and He will calm your racing mind, He will strengthen you as you clean up the powdered cheese (or whatever the mess), He will grant you a peace that just doesn’t make sense. He will give you HOPE.
Oh God, I praise You for You are mighty and majestic, and worthy to be praised. I give you thanks for You are my rock and my strength, You are my rescuer/redeemer – You are the stronghold in whom I trust. It is good to sing praises to You, Lord. You heal the broken-hearted and give rest to the weary. Your glory is beyond comprehension. You have chosen me, Your servant, to be Your beloved. Thank You.
