21 Days of Prayer & Fasting

Day 1

“And God spoke all these words, saying,
‘I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
You shall have no other gods before me.
You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.’” (Exodus 20:1-6 ESV)

If your day is anything like mine, it didn’t go quite the way you had planned. The phone rang, the kids needed help, the laundry needed folding, the groceries needed purchasing, the sugar & caffeine withdrawals are happening, and on and on. I may not have a carved image that I serve, but I certainly mess up my priorities from time to time and let things other than God become first in my life. I imagine that these things happen for you, too. Take a moment with me and confess to God those things that you put in first place today…
Holy Lord, you are the creator of Heaven and Earth. You are MY creator. You have called me into a relationship with You that is holy as You are holy. Far too often, I fall short of the mark You have set for me. I mess up and make idols out of man-made goods; I make idols out of my family; I make idols out of being busy. Cleanse me, Lord, make me clean. Draw me near to You.

Dear one, hear this Good News: For Jesus’ sake, you are forgiven. Today, Jesus makes you new. He makes it possible for you and me to draw near to God! You are a new creation and through the power that Jesus gives you, you can make God your #1 priority.

Jesus, thank You for making me new! Thank You for making me clean! I praise You for You are good and holy. Jesus, help me to surrender the high things in my life. I claim victory in Your power – through You, I overcome the strongholds in my life. You are mighty. You are my King. I surrender to You. Amen.
